Virtus Solis partners with Enduring Planet to accelerate Space Based Solar Power
Virtus Solis is a manufacturer building solar power plants to serve customers inside the orbit of the Moon with a clean, firm, and low-cost energy solution called Space Based Solar Power (SBSP). SBSP places solar cells in space, where sunlight is effectively noon all the time, making them significantly more productive than terrestrial solar. Virtus Solis then transmits that energy via radio waves that can penetrate clouds and weather to ground stations, which convert it into electricity connected to conventional grids.
SBSP was proposed over 60 years ago. Virtus Solis is the first to turn it into a commercially viable, scalable energy solution. They combine consumer electronics manufacturing, state-of-the-art wireless power transfer, and low-cost access to space to deliver gigawatt-scale power plants to customers globally. The U.S. Department of Energy awarded Virtus Solis a $2M cooperative development contract to develop the wireless power transfer technology to the efficiency level required to achieve the target energy economics.
To deliver on this first-of-a-kind DOE contract, Virtus Solis needed capital that could move at the speed of engineering, supporting hiring, prototyping, and manufacturing commitments without slowing execution. That’s where Enduring Planet stepped in.
Virtus Solis partnered with Enduring Planet to:
- Secure fast, non-dilutive capital tailored to its DOE cooperative development contract
- Obtain capital without collateral requirements or personal guarantees
- Enable commercial readiness by supporting early manufacturing partner engagements
With Enduring Planet’s support, Virtus Solis scaled rapidly to execute the DOE cooperative development contract, bringing team members on board, ordering prototypes, and signing commercial engagements with manufacturing partners. This financing helped Virtus Solis maintain momentum on a breakthrough wireless power transfer solution that advances SBSP toward a scalable clean energy future.
Our DOE contract required large expenditures for some prototype manufacturing. Enduring Planet's interest in our vertical and support allows to execute against very aggressive cost and timing goals.
